Aquatics

Y Swim Lessons teach through five basic components: personal safety, personal growth, water sports and games, stroke development, and rescues. In addition to swimming skills, Y lessons incorporate our core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility. Our curriculum is focused on developing stronger, more confident swimmers and features smaller class sizes and better student to instructor ratios. Lessons are available for ages 6 months-adults.

 

SESSION 1: January 9th-February 2nd

SESSION 2: February 20th-March 14th

SESSION 3: April 2nd-26th
SWIM LESSON SATURDAYS: February 4th-25th - FEE FOR THIS CLASS ONLY $20/Members or $40/Non-Members

*Mom Pop & Me and Pike with Parents Saturday Lessons are priced at $10/Members or $20/Non-Members

Advanced School Age Swim Lessons

(10-14 years of age)

*There are two sessions of lessons offered between January and April.

Registration opens for these classes on January 1st, 2010.

Fees: $20 members/$40 non-members

 

Session Ia: Meets twice a week for four weeks on either Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays from January 25th-February 18th.

Session Ib: Meets once a week for eight weeks on Monday nights only from January 18th-March 8th.

Session II: Meets twice a week for four weeks on either Monday/Wednesdays or Tuesday/Thursdays from March 22nd-April 15th.

 

Shark (advanced 1)

Swimmers will continue to build on skills learned in Flying Fish. Swimmers will continue to build endurance in the Front Crawl, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly, as well as continue to work on competitive swimming, such as starts and flip turns.

Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-5:45pm

 

Porpoise (advanced 2 beginning lifeguarding)

Swimmers will work on leadership skills, and continue to build on what they have learned through the previous YMCA swim lessons, as well as introduce swimmers to lifeguarding, which will help them decide if becoming a lifeguard is something they would like to pursue in the future.

Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-5:45pm

 

Teen and Adult Swim Lessons

(14 years of age through adult)

They YMCA offers teen/adult lesson for anyone 14 years and older interested in learning to swim. Any level of swimming ability is welcome in this class, as our instructors can teach you the basics of swimming or help you refine technique and build endurance. Swimming is an excellent way to exercise and it is a sport that you can participate in for a lifetime.  

 

Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:00pm

 

Mom-Pop & Me
This class is for parents and their children 6 months to 18 months of age. This class is designed for the parent and child to participate and learn together, while having fun and learning basic water adjustment and aquatic skills.

Pike with Parent

This class is for parents and their children 18 months to 3 years of age. Pike with Parent builds on the skills introduced in Mom, Pop, & Me, with participants improving these skills and learning more advanced skills and independence in the water.

Family Dressing Rooms are available for parents and their little ones!!!!



Pikes

This class is designed to be the child’s first experience in the water without a parent in the class with him/her. Water safety skills, water adjustment, independence in the water, and basic stroke development are taught through games and activities.

Eel
Participants build on the skills they learned in Pike and continue to become more independent swimmers. Safety skills and knowledge are expanded and reinforced during this level. Swimmers will work to gain confidence without an instructional flotation (float belt).

Rays

This class will review the skills learned in the Pike and Eel levels, while continuing to improve on stroke skills, body positioning, and independence in the water. Swimmers work on building endurance, learn basic diving skills, and learn how to tread water.

Starfish
This class continues to build on the skills learned in the previous pre-school levels. Breaststroke kick , front crawl, and breathing techniques are introduced and practiced.

(beginner)
This class will focus on confidence, floating, flutter kicking, forward motion, arm rotation, and breathing.

Swimmers will continue to develop their freestyle, backstroke, and elementary stroke, while learning the sidestroke, and begin to refine diving skills.

Fish (intermediate)
Swimmers will work towards being able to swim smoothly for 50 yards in freestyle, elementary backstroke, and backstroke with open turns. They will also be introduced to the breaststroke and butterfly at this level.

Flying Fish (advanced intermediate)
This level begins to focus on the four competitive strokes of swimming. Swimmers work on refining technique, building endurance, and working on advanced skills.
