Olympian headlines Kearney health fair

KEARNEY – Olympic gold medal wrestler Rulon Gardner will appear in Kearney Aug. 10 as part of the LiveWellNebraska Health Fair tour at the Kearney Family YMCA.

YMCA Raises $50,000.00 to Support Kearney Family YMCA
Annual Strong Kids Campaign to Provide Needed Membership & Program Scholarships


Under the leadership of Steve Boyer & Jerry Fast, Campaign Chairs, the Kearney Family YMCA’s annual support campaign raised $50,000.00 in charitable contributions for the Kearney Family YMCA to support membership scholarships and programs that change lives.  More than 35 volunteers solicited funds from 245 community members and businesses.  The campaign saw a 25 percent increase in donations over last year’s campaign, which generated $38,000.00 in contributions from 220 donors.

Creed Van Winkle, son of Kip and Janeece Van Winkle of Kearney, searches for Easter eggs Saturday at Kearney Family YMCA’s first egg hunt. Creed has just returned home to Kearney after being in a hospital for two months, and a fundraiser is being worked on to help the family in defraying medical costs. Kolby Richards, son of Jodi and Carl Richards of Kearney, helps Creed search for eggs.

AWARD $10,000 GRANT TO KEARNEY FAMILY YMCA

KEARNEY, Neb., March 24, 2008 – Mayor Stan Clouse joined U.S. Cellular in presenting a $10,000 grant to the Kearney Family YMCA. The donation will benefit the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, which helps children and families who cannot afford the cost of programs and/or membership.

The Kearney Family YMCA has named Denny Placzek as its new CEO/Executive Director effective October 22, 2007.  Placzek was formerly the Business Operations Director for the Kearney Family YMCA. With more than 13 years of service to the Kearney YMCA, he brings an energy and commitment to the community that will put him in an excellent position to build on the organization’s success.
